Fast Facts about the Sacred Heart
The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart is celebrated on the Friday after Corpus Christi each year (this year, on Friday, June 27, 2025).
The Sacred Heart devotion is rooted in Scripture, as well as an 11th century meditation on the Five Wounds of Christ, and private revelations to St. Gertrude the Great and St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, reminding us of Jesus’ infinite love for humanity.
Sacred Heart Devotion involves receiving Holy Communion on the First Friday of the month for nine consecutive months and adoring Him in the Holy Eucharist. According to the last of the 12 Sacred Heart Promises, Jesus said:
“I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Friday in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.”
