When I was growing up, my mother organized Posadas in our vecindario — our neighborhood.

For nine nights before Christmas, different families opened their homes, welcoming everyone in our community. We would gather together and walk through the streets singing Posada songs, stopping at two homes along the way to ask for shelter, just as Mary and Joseph did.

The final home always welcomed us inside, reminding us of the moment the Holy Family found a place in the manger. We prayed the rosary, sang together, and ended the night with hot chocolate, pan dulce, and sometimes a piñata for the kids. Every child went home with a little goodie bag — a small gift, but a big memory.
